That includes hard staffing work such as covering shortages, refereeing disputes, administering discipline, and firing people when needed. Labor contracts have to be interpreted and negotiated, the organization represented at personnel hearings or investigations, and managers advised on policy matters such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment. New hires are oriented, and compensation and benefits policies are reviewed so programs stay competitive and legal. It suits people who like listening through conflict, explaining rules clearly, and leading a personnel staff.
