Most of the day is spent at a register or scanner: greeting people, totaling what they owe, and taking cash, cards, checks, or other payment. Change, receipts, refunds, or credits go back to the customer, and questions about prices, procedures, or policies get answered, sometimes by phone. Checkout stations also need watching so they have enough cash and enough people on them. The work is a stream of short, public transactions in shops and other places that take payment. It suits people who like accurate money handling and can stay courteous when someone is confused or unhappy.
