Fields are walked or driven to collect soil samples, yield readings, and boundary lines, which then become layered maps of nutrients, drainage, and crop performance. Sensors and vehicle guidance systems are installed and calibrated; land is split into zones so fertilizer, water, or pesticide can go where they are needed. Yield maps are set beside soil tests to plan treatment, and records of what was measured and applied are kept throughout. Computers and basic GIS software sit beside the outdoor work.
