What you might do
- Research rates, routings, or modes of transport for shipment of products
- Maintain awareness of regulations affecting the international movement of cargo
- Make arrangements for additional services, such as storage or inland transportation
- Coordinate with carriers, shippers, and receivers to ensure timely delivery
- Prepare and process shipping documentation and customs paperwork
- Monitor and track shipments to ensure compliance with schedules
AI & the future of this role
While AI can optimize routes and track regulations, human negotiation, problem-solving for unexpected logistics issues, and relationship management with clients and carriers remain difficult to fully automate. However, much of the data-driven decision-making is susceptible to AI replacement.
