First-Line Supervisors of Correctional Officers
Protective Service
Oversees correctional officers so inmates stay in safe custody and assigned areas stay orderly. Takes or checks periodic inmate counts, enforces institutional policies, and supervises or conducts searches of inmates and quarters for contraband. Responds to emergencies such as escapes and, when needed, restrains or controls offenders with chemical agents, firearms, or other weapons. Also watches how officers treat inmates, visitors, and the public, expecting alert and professional conduct.
