This is the job of keeping buildings—and sometimes the grounds or a whole campus—safe, secure, and in working order. The day includes watching the condition of the site, directing repairs to machinery and electrical or mechanical systems, and overseeing construction or renovation so the place meets health, environmental, and security rules. Budgets for contracts, equipment, and supplies have to be planned and controlled, and the work often reaches into space planning with architects and engineers. Reports, schedules, and staff training sit alongside that site work. It suits people who like mixing building-level details with budgets and who are comfortable tracking whether a facility is actually holding up.
