Urgent problems are judged from both the body and from monitors, then treated with emergency steps such as basic or advanced cardiac life support. Invasive gear is set up and watched: ventilators, catheters, gastrointestinal tubes, and central lines; blood and IV fluids are given while checking for a bad reaction. EKGs and x-rays are read, everything is written down, and illnesses and treatments are explained to patients and families. Better for people who want rapid assessment, invasive procedures, and decisions that cannot be put off.
