What you might do
- Assist surgeons during operations under supervision

- Clamp or cauterize vessels or tissue during procedures
- Apply dressings to surgical sites post-operation
AI & the future of this role
While surgical assistants perform complex tasks requiring precision, many of their responsibilities (e.g., suctioning, clamping, or applying dressings) could be automated with advanced robotics. However, real-time adaptability and collaboration with human surgeons remain challenging for AI in the near term.
