Day to day, the job is a mix of design and hands-on testing. Designs, calculations, and cost estimates get a close look, then robots are built or configured and their programs are debugged. Much of the work is reading sensor data, designing the tooling at the end of a robot arm, and laying out systems for vision, sensing, or vehicle control. Program backups have to be kept, and others need help when a system fails or needs setup. It suits people who like tracing problems through hardware and software and making careful technical decisions.
