Aircraft, trains, bridges, pipelines, and similar structures are checked for hidden flaws without being cut open. Methods include radiographic images, ultrasonic scans, and looking inside with fiber optics, endoscopes, or closed-circuit cameras. The same checks apply to vehicles, vessels, nuclear reactors, and dams, and sometimes to parts still in a shop. Results are read against codes and written procedures, then put into reports. The work fits people who want close visual and instrument checks, strict comparison against a standard, and time split between shop and field sites.
