Production
Sand or wax is sifted and packed into mold sections and core boxes around a pattern, using hand or pneumatic rammers. Patterns sit in the sections; parting agents go on so they release; cores go in the lower half before the mold is clamped for pouring. Surfaces are cleaned and smoothed, flaws repaired, and wire or slab cores added for strength. Mold sections, patterns, and bottom boards move by crane or by signal to others; the upper half is lifted so the pattern can come out. Tends to suit those who prefer hands-on forming, moving mold sections, and careful assembly before a pour.
