Analyzes hardware and software problems and turns them into mathematical models that a computer can solve. The work ranges from designing computers and the programs that run them to adapting known principles so machines can be used in new ways. Project plans get reviewed for feasibility; tasks are scheduled against priorities; and meetings with managers and vendors are used to get cooperation and settle problems. Some projects cut across fields such as virtual reality, human-computer interaction, or robotics. The work fits those who prefer abstract analysis, system design, and judging whether a technical plan will actually work.
