The job is to set and run a sustainability strategy and keep it working across the organization. That means designing programs for energy use, recycling, pollution, waste, transport, and related issues, then checking whether those programs work. Monitoring systems, schedules, and budgets have to be built and kept current, and staff or volunteers on the projects need supervision. Reports, presentations, and outreach materials go out to management, employees, suppliers, government, and the public, and pilot projects are chosen and tested to extend the organization's sustainability research. It suits people who like careful writing and speaking, weighing trade-offs, and persuading others rather than working only through formal authority.
