Day to day, the work is identifying and classifying species and collecting data on structure, behavior, ecology, physiology, and how organisms relate to their surroundings. Computers are used to store and analyze that data. Results often appear in technical reports, including environmental impact reports, and get shared with industry, government, or the public. The job can also mean supervising technicians, reviewing land-use proposals against scientific standards, and working with agencies and the public on how findings should be used.
