The job is to develop and improve vehicle systems—structures, engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and related controls—often with computer-assisted design. Day-to-day work includes directing system-level tests, calibrating control software, and running failure or root-cause analyses when parts do not perform as intended. Designs may cover aerodynamics, hybrid power, alternate fuels, ergonomics, or safety, and the role also sets production and quality standards and reports project status to other engineers. The work fits people who like tracing problems through a whole vehicle, making design decisions from test data, and explaining those decisions in writing and in meetings.
