Work involves installing, adjusting, and operating microphones, speakers, cameras, monitors, mixing boards, and the cables that connect them for concerts, meetings, conventions, presentations, podcasts, news conferences, or sports. During a show, lights and sound get controlled, video sources get switched from one camera or studio to another, and media-system problems have to be found and fixed. Audio and video files are compressed, copied, and stored; soundtracks and similar material may be recorded and edited. Assistants are directed on site, and supervisors are told when a major repair is needed. It suits people who like hands-on equipment work, spotting faults quickly, and staying focused through a live event.
